Is trad that bad??

Today’s countdown article…in association once again with The Sligo Champion. 6 weeks to go!

So – there is one question I have been asked far more than any other about the upcoming gig in Vicar St.

‘What’s going to be on the set’?

Some people seem to be worried that it’s going to be a trad gig. They tell me things like  ‘I don’t mind a bit of trad, but I’m not sure I’d like a whole gig of it’.

Well you people can relax and book your tickets, because while we can’t do a gig of Irish music without some sort of nod to our own unique traditional style, it would be equally remiss of us not to include the many other genres that have been so well represented by Irish bands and artists throughout the years.

So as I say the line-up hasn’t yet been finalised, but it would be difficult to imagine a setlist without some representation of the music of U2, Sinéad O’Connor, Thin Lizzy, Hozier, The Cranberries, The Pogues, our own Westlife, and Van Morrison. Along with some folk, trad and as always a surprise or two.

And to finish off with some good news – also in this week’s Sligo Champion there is a chance to win a fantastic prize – two tickets to the gig with overnight accomodation in Dublin. See pic below or page 3 of today’s paper for more details.
